TUTOR JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS
DUTIES
- Learns tutoring techniques through participation in tutor training
sessions and other training techniques
- Establishes rapport with students and respects their right to confidentiality
at all times.
- Using specialized skills evaluates the student's present level of
knowledge.
- Independently instructs, teaches, demonstrates or by other means imparts
knowledge to students on a one to one basis or in a group.
- Devises alternate tutoring methods when working with students with
special needs.
- Makes appropriate referrals to other student and/or academic services
on campus.
- Maintains accurate records of appointments made, hours worked and
students tutored.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Sophomore status with minimum of 3 quarter in residence at UCR
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and GPA of 3.3 or above in the classes
to be tutored
- Excellent communication skills
- Sensitivity of needs of students who come from a variety of academic
backgrounds as well as levels of preparedness
- Respects the racial, ethical, national, political, religious, physical
and sexual diversity of the students
- Willingness to work as a team member with other students and professional
staff employed by the Learning Center as well as other members of the
campus community
- Additional requirements may apply to tutors in certain subject areas.
