Unlock the door to academic success
....ACE is the key
|
Who Participates In ACE?
Occasionally, students find themselves having difficulties with their classes. They
may not understand faculty expectations, they may have ineffective study habits, or
they may need tutorial assistance with certain subjects. Sometimes students simply
find themselves receiving grades that are not up to their personal expectations - or
up to the expectations of the University. As a result, they may fall behind in their
degree programs.
|
|
The ACE program has been designed with YOU, the student, in mind. If you know you are
capable of better academic performance, but need the skills, the direction, and the
motivation to reach your academic goals, ACE is the program for you.
What Do ACE Participants Do?
As an ACE participant, you will be expected to adhere to all commitments that you and your
ACE counselor have specified in the ACE agreement. For example, you might decide to attend
Learning Center study groups or study skills sessions, use tutoring, limit job hours or
extracurricular activities, visit the Career Services Center, etc.
|
How Do I Enroll in the ACE Program?
You can be referred to the ACE program by a letter from an Associate Dean, by an ACE
referral slip from an academic advisor, or via notification from the Financial Aid Office.
Or, you can come to the Learning Center and make an appointment on your own.
During your initial consultation, an ACE counselor from the professional staff will assess
the causes of your academic difficulties and explain how ACE can help. Together, you will
work out a program of ACE activities tailored to meet your needs. You finalize your commitment
to these activities by signing an ACE contract. An ACE counselor with a background in your
field of study will be assigned to monitor your progress on a regular basis. The ACE counselor
will also send written notification to your academic advisor apprising them of your enrollment
in the program.
|
ACE Accountability
Once you have made an ACE agreement, it is binding for the quarter. At the end of the quarter,
the ACE counselor will send a progress report to the party who referred you: the Associate
Dean, your academic advisor, or the Financial Aid Office. Failure to uphold the terms of your
ACE agreement will result in the notification of your academic department and could jeopardize
your progress in your major as well as delay the release of your future financial aid.
We find that students who complete the terms of their ACE contract by following up on program
requirements are able to earn satisfactory quarter GPAs and improve their overall academic
standing at the University. ACE participants also report that they have made valuable counseling
contacts at the Learning Center and that they have become more aware of campus support services
and how to use them.
